UTM campaign tracking

Use standard UTM parameters or a compact ref referral code to connect campaign visits with the pages, sessions, and conversion events that follow.

Supported UTM parameters

ParameterUse
utm_sourceThe publisher, platform, or referring source.
utm_mediumThe marketing medium, such as email, paid_social, or cpc.
utm_campaignThe stable campaign name.
utm_termAn optional keyword or audience term.
utm_contentAn optional creative, link, or placement variation.
utm_idAn optional campaign identifier from your advertising system.
refA compact referral-code alias for utm_source. An explicit utm_source takes precedence.

Build a campaign URL

https://example.com/pricing?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=summer_launch&utm_content=hero_button
https://example.com/pricing?ref=partner_name

Keep naming conventions consistent. For example, do not alternate between newsletter, email_newsletter, and Newsletter when they represent the same source.

Read campaign behavior

The first captured UTM attribution remains attached to the active session. Use Overview source filters and Sessions journey filters to compare the pages and events associated with campaign traffic.
