Cohort analysis and path exploration

The Behavior page combines a weekly retention cohort chart with a step-by-step path exploration report similar to the page-path workflow in larger analytics suites.

Read the cohort analysis chart

Each row groups users by the week of their first recorded session. Week 0 is the acquisition cohort. Week 1 and later cells show the percentage of that cohort that returned and recorded another session in the corresponding week.

FieldMeaning
CohortThe Monday of the user's first active week.
UsersThe number of users first observed in that cohort.
Week 0The complete acquisition cohort, shown as 100% when users exist.
Week 1+Users who returned in each later week, divided by the cohort size.

Explore website paths

  1. Choose 7D, 14D, or 30D for the path data.
  2. Select a starting page from the first column.
  3. Review the next pages reached by matching sessions.
  4. Select another node to expand the following step.
  5. Change an earlier node to replace the downstream branch, or use Reset to start again.

Each node shows matching sessions and its percentage of all paths at that step. Path branches are queried lazily, so only the selected next step is loaded.

Questions behavior analytics can answer

  • Do users acquired this week return in later weeks?
  • Which page do pricing visitors open next?
  • What paths commonly lead from documentation to registration?
  • Where do high-interest journeys stop before conversion?
